The Reds hope to clinch qualification into the round of 16 on Tuesday.

After blowing the game against Atalanta last week, Liverpool have another chance to clinch passage into the Champions League round of 16 when Ajax comes to Anfield on Tuesday evening.

The Eredivisie side put up a strong fight in Amsterdam, and manager Jürgen Klopp anticipates another tough match.

“Yeah, why should I not expect a close game?” Klopp asked. “Ajax Amsterdam is a really good side and since our game is flying pretty much through the league. Big results, clear top of the table, very talented, some players coming back – these kind of things. Yes, I expect a close game.”

To finish the qualification with a game to spare would help limit the upcoming fixture congestion somewhat and save some key players a trip to Denmark. Klopp realizes this, and his answer when asked about that was full of the typical Klopp sass.

“Yes, three points would be great, absolutely great,” he agreed. “But that is obviously on the table, so clear that it would help us massively. I didn’t think I would have to mention it today. But yes, of course, important game against a really good team and that’s the way we want to approach it.”

Liverpool will make it to the round of 16 if they avoid defeat. Playing at Anfield should boost their chances, though the limited players that Klopp has to choose from, and especially the cobbled together defense, could cause them problems.
