Liverpool will travel to the Midlands in January as both Premier League clubs enter the cup in the third round

This is it, the moment you have all been waiting for. What’s that? No this isn’t about Thiago miraculously being fit. But he might be fit for when Liverpool enter the FA cup in January after Liverpool found out their opponents as the Premier League teams enter in the third round.

Being Liverpool, of course, they weren’t drawn against a lower tier side, or even the local Non-League wonder team, Marine FC. No, instead, Liverpool were drawn against a Premier League side for the fourth year in a row. The last three years, the Reds played Everton, Wolves, and Everton again. This time around, the Reds were drawn against Aston Villa.

Liverpool will travel to the Midlands for the game slated to be the weekend of January 9th. It could provide Liverpool an opportunity to excise some demons after the laughable 7-2 defeat earlier this season (assuming you haven’t blocked it out of your memory).

Liverpool also did not fare so well against the Villans the last time the met in a cup competition. You may remember the 5-0 drubbing in last year’s EFL Cup quarterfinal clash of a literal men against boys. Liverpool’s U23 manager fielded a squad that day with an average age of 19.48 years old as Jurgen Klopp and the senior team were away in Doha for the FIFA Club World Cup.

While a win and progression in a cup competition sounds nice, Liverpool will be coming off of a brutal month and a half stretch of playing twice a week. More than anything, let’s just hope that Liverpool will have enough senior team players fit to field a squad.
