Liverpool Reportedly Agree Deal for Birmingham City Starlet
A fee is said to have been agreed and now youngster Calum Scanlon must decide where his future lies.
Liverpool appear on the verge of a new signing and he can, in fact, play defence. He’s also 15 years old and won’t be playing defence for the first team any time soon, making it a signing very much for the future rather than for the present.
According to multiple reports today, though, Liverpool and Birmingham City have agreed a fee of less than £500k for 15-year-old Calum Scanlon, who has played multiple positions in defence and midfield at the youth levels for the Blues.
The Times’ Paul Joyce says that the player and his family are now deciding if they will make the move to Merseyside in order for the player to begin training with his new teammates and coaches at Liverpool’s academy, likely at the U16 level.
The sale, if it is in fact finalised, could in part be a forced one, as Birmingham recently revealed that the future of their youth academy all the way up to the U16 level was at risk due to the Championship club’s precarious financial situation.
