Rumour Mongeering: Inter Milan Eye Divock Origi as January Reinforcement

Inter need help in attack. Even with Liverpool’s injuries, Origi isn’t playing. As rumours go it makes a certain sense.

Most Liverpool fans will be nervously waiting to see if the Reds find a way to sign a new centre half in January now that Joël Matip has once again joined Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the injured list.

For the time being at least, though, it’s chatter about a potential outgoing that leads the way, with talk out of Italy that Divock Origi could be on the move shortly with Inter Milan a possible January landing spot.

With Liverpool signing Diogo Jota over the summer, Origi’s long-term prospects at the club took a major blow. And even with Jota sidelined, minutes have been near impossible for the Belgian to come by.

That has multiple Italian outlets, led the way by Corriere dello Sport, talking up Origi as a potential January reinforcement for Inter, who have struggled for goals this season with Alexis Sanchez often out injured.

Aside from Jota’s recent knock, Liverpool’s injuries have largely been in midfield and defence and Origi continues to appear surplus to requirements and at 25 years of age really needs more playing time.

Inter, on the other hand, have gaps in attack as they challenge rivals AC Milan for the league—Inter are currently just a point back in second place. Judged on needs and wants, it seems a reasonable enough rumour.

Still, reasonable is a long way from real and even if there’s something to the story, real is equally far from a done deal done. With the window set to open in a few days, though, it’s a rumour to keep an eye on.
