The star defender shared video of him strengthening his knee and doing light work with a football.

The bad news is that no matter how well or quickly he recovers from his anterior cruciate ligament injury and the surgery to repair it, Liverpool and Netherlands star Virgil van Dijk isn’t likely to play a significant role in the 2020-21 season.

The good news is that Van Dijk appears to be recovering well, pushing against the most optimistic end of his potential recovery timeline, and barring any setbacks that at least seems a very positive sign for the longer-term future.

The latest update on his situation came today from the man himself, as Van Dijk took to social media to share a clip of him working out, testing and rebuilding the strength in his knee, and even doing work with a football.

This comes just a month and a half following surgery to repair his damaged ACL, and while even a best case scenario recovery likely doesn’t include significant action this season, it does leave a sliver of room for a few late cameo appearances.

And the upside of that would be to set up a scenario where Van Dijk is not just fully recovered from the surgery but fully up to speed and match fit for the entirety of the 2021-22 season.
