Joel Matip A Doubt for Man Utd Clash
The defender is running out of time to prove his fitness.
According to Daily Mirror journalist David Maddock, Joël Matip is running out of time to prove his fitness for Liverpool FC’s Sunday top of the table showdown against rivals Manchester United. Following his abductor injury sustained against West Brom on December 27, the only senior centre-back left (somewhat standing) has progressed to training in specially-prepared sessions with the physios. Although our tall striding giraffe is already able to run and work with a ball on grass, he has yet to train with the first-team squad. According to Maddock, Papa Klopp would need to see him train for two sessions with his team-mates, and come through with no reaction, to be ready for the game.
The squad will be entering a stretch where they’ll be basically playing every three days, and it’s hard to see Joel coming out of that unscathed if he’s not carefully deployed. So... what we’re saying is, there’s a good chance you’ll be seeing Rhys Williams or Nat Phillips this Sunday.
