Klopp Talk: Liverpool Will Treat Build-Up to United Game Like Pre-Season

The boss talks about the week ahead.

It’s been a while since Jurgen Klopp and his team have had a full week of rest and preparation between games and given the jam-packed schedule that we’ve seen before this week (and that Liverpool will be facing right after the Manchester United game this coming Sunday), it makes sense that Klopp has some solid plans.

“We have something like a little pre-season for the rest of the season,” Klopp told the club’s website this weekend. “We will do a lot of 11 v 11 stuff because that’s something a lot of the boys didn’t have for a while.

“We will use that time now.”

Hopefully the 11 v 11 stuff that Klopp and the rest of the coaches have planned have an impact in Liverpool’s continuing team selection issues, especially given the packed schedule and lack of (much needed) transfer action this month. The already ridiculous schedule is also constantly affected by the ongoing pandemic and team testing.

“With our own line-up, before the test results are back you cannot be 100% sure on what you are doing,” Klopp said. “So far we have been lucky with that, but it stays as a concern in your mind.

“We went to Villa and were all negative, and hopefully it stays like this. But the times are tricky and we just have to stay on track and have to do the right stuff and be disciplined.

“That’s what we were so far and that’s what we have to be.”

It goes without saying that the longer the FA goes without cancelling games, especially given the recent spate of positive tests, the worse it is for everyone involved. But that option doesn’t seem to have occurred to the FA so hopefully the week of pre-season-esque training pays off.
