Liam Millar will spend the rest of the 2020-21 season on loan with Charlton Athletic.

It may not be the defensive signing every fan is hoping for, but Liverpool have made one move in the transfer market today as they extended forward Liam Millar’s contract before sending the young player out on loan to League One side Charlton Athletic.

The 21-year-old began his career in Canada before moving to England and joining Fulham as a 13-year-old. He then switched to Liverpool at 16 on a free transfer, and has since departed on a pair of half-season loans with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

Since his first senior international cap in 2018, Millar has made eight appearances for the Canadian national team. In that time he also has one senior Liverpool appearance, made in the FA Cup fourth round replay against Shrewsbury Town last February.

This season, Millar had been the regular captain for the U23 side and was a nominee for Premier League 2 player of the month in September and November. He joins a Charlton side currently sixth in League One and targeting promotion to the Championship.
