Neco Williams Hopes For Long FA Cup Run
The defender spoke after Liverpool’s come from behind victory against Aston Villa.
Some of the gloom hovering over Reds fans after the past disappointing league results, culminating in the defeat to Southampton on Monday, was cleared with a heartening victory against Aston Villa in the FA Cup. Liverpool have not had a good recent history with the domestic cups. Most fans have happily taken the league title and Champions League victory as recompense for this failure.
This thoroughly unpredictable and frustrating season reared its ugly head once again, forcing Aston Villa to field a weakened team due to a COVID-19 outbreak within their squad. Despite that, they put in a strong first half. However, the first power available to the Reds was more than enough to see them through.
After the game, Williams spoke to the official site about his hopes for this competition.
“I think the more rounds we go through the FA Cup then hopefully the more game time I can get. The FA Cup is not a cup we have done that well in, so I think this year we are looking forward to pushing on and to get to the final and hopefully win it,” he said.
“It’s always good to score goals and that just gives the lads who scored the confidence to go and do that in the next game, keep adding them goals to the charts. The more clinical they are, the more goals they are going to get. So it was good for the lads.”
Due to mass injuries among the squad and exhaustion for those left, the Reds have lacked rhythm and the crispness of play that has defined Liverpool over the last few seasons. A win, even under these unique circumstances, was a welcome relief, especially as we prepare for the Manchester United match next week.
