Spanish Report Claims Gini Wijnaldum Has Rejected Latest Liverpool Offer
Wijnaldum had wanted more time to determine his future but the claim in Spain is that he’s now settled on Barcelona.
Since last summer’s transfer window ended and Gini Wijnaldum entered the final year of his Liverpool contract having rejected previous attempts by the club to sign him to a new deal, the general belief has been that this is likely his last season at Anfield.
Despite that, recent reports from journalists connected to Liverpool had the key midfielder still not having made a final decision and wanting more time. Today, though, at least one outlet in Spain is claiming Wijnaldum’s mind is made up on Barcelona.
At least if you believe Todofichajes, who claim they have been told by their sources that Wijnaldum has rejected Liverpool’s latest offer, with the player determined to join Barcelona on a free in the summer as the Catalan club’s first offseason signing.
It’s worth taking the report with a grain of salt, with the outlet in question hardly at the top of the reliability list when it comes to Barcelona transfer chatter, but the reality remains that the 30-year-old midfielder’s most likely future is away from Liverpool.
With the club having made multiple attempts to extend Wijnaldum stretching back into 2019 now, if there was common ground and a deal to be done between player and club it likely would have been a long time ago now.
