Conor Coady and Jamie Carragher Join Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Football For Change
The organization helps marginalized and disadvantaged kids get employment and education opportunities.
Football For Change, an initiative started in 2020 by Trent Alexander-Arnold, just added former Liverpool academy pupil Conor Coady and former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher to it’s distinguished list of supporters.
According to their homepage, FFC is “is investing into young people who face social and economic barriers when trying to reach their full potential. Neighbourhoods affected by low educational attainment and high levels of youth unemployment are being targeted.”
Coady and Carragher join the likes of Steven Gerrard, Gary Lineker, and Gary Neville in supporting the initiative, bringing their profiles to a worthy cause of helping kids gain opportunities they might not have otherwise had. Kids struggling for employment and education opportunities, that Alexander-Arnold got to witness firsthand growing up in Liverpool.
“Football For Change is about giving everyone opportunities they deserve from a young age,” said Alexander-Arnold to the Mail. “Cities like Liverpool are more deprived than other areas and so it’s important for us to come together to support this.
“Everyone that has given it their backing so far is massive for us and this is only going to help improve young people’s lives by showing them a more positive path. To have the platform I’ve got now and reach out to so many people, be a role model for so many, it’s important to use that in the right way and get involved in initiatives like this.
“You see so much deprivation within cities like Liverpool, whether that be food, shelter, education or even opportunities just to play football. And that’s why initiatives like this are so important, to give people opportunities and give people an equal chance to leave their problems to one side and prosper.
“Football For Change is so easy to get behind while the benefits and impact you’ll have on young people will be absolutely massive.”
Carragher and Coady are joined by current players like Everton’s Andre Gomes and Anthony Gordon, Leeds’ Jack Harrison, and another former Liverpool player in Dominic Solanke. The organization has set a starting goal of raising £250,000 towards their fund for helping disadvantaged kids into education, training, and employment.
“It’s massive that we can use our platform to help disadvantaged kids and level the playing field for young people by giving them opportunities in life to showcase what they can do,” Wolves captain Conor Coady said of the organization.
“It’s ridiculous how difficult it can be for disadvantaged young people and it’s important we help these kids as much as possible. For us to be involved and push Football For Change is a real privilege, it’s massive that we can help kids going forward.
“Coming up through Liverpool FC you get put with kids from different areas of the country and different areas of the city. I was very lucky growing up but it was eye-opening to see as a teenager what people could be going through.”
Nearly everyone involved has seen some sort of hardship growing up, and knows that sometimes it’s harder to get those opportunities due to many other reasons out of your control. Good on Trent and everyone else for throwing their considerable profiles behind an initiative to help kids take advantage.
