The Reds have earned all nine points in their opening three games.

Despite a difficult loss to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, Gini Wijnaldum still feels proud of how he and his teammates have begun this new season.

Liverpool had a difficult September as their title challenge kicked off. They took care of the traditionally difficult fixture at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, and home matches against Arsenal and Leeds United.

Gini Wijnaldum, a player who has had question marks around his future with the club, has nonetheless played a big part in the opening games.

“The kind of football we’ve been playing was quite good,” Wijnaldum said. “The circumstances we had to deal with were difficult but we still did well, so that also made me proud because we were in a situation where we could find excuses – but we didn’t.

“We dealt with the situations we had and tried to put a good performance on the pitch. That’s what we did – we had good performances, the results were good.

“I hope we can do the same against Aston Villa, so everyone goes with a good feeling to the national team.”

The team will want to bounce back after their League Cup loss against Arsenal, and the first chance they’ll have to do that is on Sunday against Aston Villa.
