Naby Keita Confirmed To Be Facing Hamstring Issue
The midfielder picked up the injury during the game against Brighton on Saturday.
26-year old Guinean midfielder Naby Keita moved to Liverpool in 2018 for £53million and was the club’s third most expensive transfer, after Alisson Becker and Virgil Van Dijk. He showed great promise, and even took on Steven Gerrard’s historic number 8 jersey.
But things haven’t worked out as planned, and his Liverpool career has been marred with injuries.
On Saturday, during the Premier League game against Brighton, he had to be substituted in the first half due to a hamstring injury.
“He told me, he showed me [the] hamstring. So, I don’t know, we will see; obviously tomorrow [or] the day after tomorrow he will have a scan and then we will know”, Jurgen Klopp said after the game.
“But if somebody feels the hamstring, it would be the first time that he is ready for the next game. So, I can’t see that.”
This means that Keita is likely to be sidelined for the mid-week Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid.
The injury comes at a particularly unfortunate moment when Keita was beginning to assert his role in midfield. He has scored three goals already this season, including one in the 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United. Liverpool are also facing a growing midfield crisis, with Thiago, Fabinho and James Milner sidelined.
It was said that he will undergo a scan to determine the severity of the injury.
