Liverpool’s Stefan Bajcetic on Injury Return: “It’s Been a Long Time!”
Bajcetic made just his third appearance of 2023-24 on Sunday following a difficult season dealing with adductor and calf injuries.
Watching the Reds get back to their winning ways with an exciting 4-2 victory over Tottenham was a bright spot for fans and the club after a difficult April, but the scoreline and team performance wasn’t the only positive to take away from Sunday.
There was also a long-awaited appearance for promising young midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, who has been largely out of action since March of last season when he suffered an adductor injury that was followed by a persistent calf issue as he worked towards his return.
“It’s always good as well to step on the pitch after a long time as well so yeah, a happy day,” Bajcetic said following his 65th minute introduction. “It’s been a long time. It’s good to be back, [but] I still need get my rhythm back and keep playing hopefully.”
His 25 minutes on Sunday were his first of the Premier League season, with the 19-year-old having made two appearances totalling 72 minutes in the Europa League and League Cup back in September in his initial return from last season’s adductor injury.
With just two games left there may not be too many chances to keep playing this season, but most will expect Bajcetic to see similar minutes off the bench in the Reds’ final two matches at Aston Villa and against Wolves at Anfield to close the season.
“I came back and played a couple of games [in September] but then I was feeling it again,” the young midfielder added. “So I wanted to recover properly, get stronger in all my body, so that I would not get it back. Hopefully now, touch wood, it’s all good.”
