Arsenal Engulfed in Injury Crisis Before Anfield Visit
Fresh doubts over Calafiori, Saka and more have developed after their Champions League game against Shaktar Donetsk.
Arsenal have found themselves in an injury crisis before their visit to Anfield to take on Liverpool FC this Sunday.
Riccardo Calafiori was forced off for Arsenal in the second half with just under 20 minutes left to play at the Emirates Stadium. He appeared to have twisted his knee and needed help from the physio. He attempted to play on but was replaced by Myles Lewis-Skelly in the final stages.
After the game, Mikel Arteta had this to say about the availability of star man Bukayo Saka, who was not in the squad against Shakhtar and Calafiori:
I don’t know, sorry, he wasn’t able to train yet, so that’s unlikely.”
“Riccy, I don’t know, he felt something and could not continue playing so [it’s a] bit of a worry.”
Jurrien Timber was also absent from the squad against Shakhtar, having not trained before the match, like Saka. He didn’t go away with his country during the break like Saka.
Meanwhile, captain Martin Odegaard continues to be out with an ankle injury.
