Gravenberch on Anfield: “They Give Us Power When They’re Like This”
For the second game in a week, Anfield brought the noise in the second half, this time helping power the Reds to a 4-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
On Tuesday, Liverpool welcomed defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Leverkusen to Anfield, opponents who under ex-Red Xabi Alonso won the German league as invincibles last season and lost just two matches going back to the start of 2023-24.
Liverpool beat them 4-0, and deservedly so given Arne Slot’s Reds dominated the chance creation numbers by 4.46xG to 0.87xG with the hosts exploding after a cagey first half and utterly dominating Leverkusen in a second half that saw the players feeding off the energy of an increasingly loud crowd.
“I think we did good in the second half,” Liverpool midfield star Ryan Gravenberch said following the final whistle. “The first half was difficult. Leverkusen pressed us well, but I think in the second we played with more intensity, pressed them, and scored four, so we’re really happy tonight.
“And also in the second half Anfield was amazing. So you also get more power to show yourself. Against Brighton on the weekend and then it was amazing and today as well. They really give us power when they’re like this.”
With the demolition of Leverkusen now in the books and a pair of impressively loud second halves at Anfield having helped power the Reds to victory twice just this week, Aston Villa are up next as Liverpool play their third home game on the bounce before hitting pause for for the November international break.
“Bayer Leverkusen is a really good team,” Gravenberch added. “From the start we always want to win and we did that today. It’s a great feeling and we keep going.”
