Liverpool FC Women Looking To Sam Kerr Loan Deal For Midfield Depth
The Scottish midfielder has struggled for regular minutes at the German club, and a move closer to home could be in the works.
The Liverpool FC Women have been extremely thin at the midfield position after both Missy Bo Kearns and Miri Taylor left this summer with no replacements. Sofie Lundgaard was lost for the season, leaving manager Matt Beard with only four midfield options, including 17 year old Zara Shaw. With Fuka Nagano, Ceri Holland, and Marie Höbinger all missing time through injury as well, it has been a struggle for Beard to find bodies at time to fill the midfield roles.
BBC reporter Emma Sanders has said the Reds are looking to a longtime target in Sam Kerr for some added depth. No, not THAT Sam Kerr, this is 25 year old Scottish midfielder currently playing for Bayern Munich. Kerr has struggled for consistent minutes at the German club, playing only 238 league minutes across two starts and an addition six appearances as a substitute. She managed just under 500 minutes across 13 matches last season as well. With Beard previously stating that he did not have a budget for reinforcements to work with this winter, Sanders is reporting that Liverpool are attempting to bring in Kerr on loan.
Sanders also reports that Liverpool are attempting to fend off interest for their current holding midfielder, Fuka Nagano. The Japan international has been a lynchpin for the Reds since signing a year and a half ago. With only 6 months remaining on her current contract, and a new deal not agreed to at this point, clubs are attempting to entice Liverpool to sell the player now.
