The left-back’s comments should be a reminder for fans to touch grass.

It’s been funny seeing some Liverpool FC fans react to results week by week. A nine-point lead, seven points, four points, a narrow win, a big win—it’s seemingly never enough unless Liverpool dominate the game, register 10xG, and have 100% possession. Granted, LFC fans as a whole seem to be handling it better than Arsenal fans, who are staring down the abyss of a third consecutive season of title contention without actually winning the title.

An interview with Andy Robertson on the official LFC website shows how the players handle the situation. Surprise, they’re a lot more level-headed.

“It’s never straightforward. I think we’ve learned that over the years and there’s always bumps and there’s always twists and turns, and I think that’s always how it is when you get to the end of the season no matter where you’ve finished.”

“There’s always been a kind of rollercoaster element to it and I think it’s part and parcel of it, it’s what the fans enjoy, they enjoy the rollercoaster [because] it makes the highs a lot more special and obviously the fans’ support has been unbelievable for us up to now.”

“Like I’ve said, we never take it for granted: every away end being sold out, how many games we’ve got, and every time we come home the stadium is full and they really get behind us.”

“OK, there might be nervy moments and there might be bad moments but hopefully we can all be happy at the end of the season.”

“But it’s up to us to try to achieve that and we can achieve it all together by pushing in the same direction, by supporting each other, and I believe we have done that really well up to now and we’re going to do that up to the end of the season.”

On the pretty quick turnaround between games ahead of Villa away:

“The schedule just now is obviously really intense and you don’t get time to really even analyse the last game before you’re moving on to the next game.”

“We just have to move on and already we now head into Villa and it’s going to be an unbelievably tough game. I think they’ve only been beaten there once this season and I know how good they can play and how good they are, so it’s going to be a difficult game.”

“We always have a difficult game there but we have to go there full of confidence, we’re still in a good moment, and hopefully we can get the win that we really need.”

We’re knee-deep in the title charge. There’s a game every three games, so bad performances are going to inevitably happen. What’s important is that the team (and fans) can shake them off, not dwell on setbacks and move forward quickly. Up the Reds.
