Turns out the head coach will still be available this weekend but could face a two-game ban further down the line.

The slightly confusing fallout from the last Merseyside derby continues to rumble on. Early yesterday morning, the Premier League announced that Liverpool FC head coach Arne Slot would be banned for two matches after his sending-off at Goodison Park for the use of “offensive, insulting or abusive language”.

However, it was a mistake, and that part of the statement was quickly retracted.

Club-connected journalist Lewis Steele got into the weeds of the issue and provided a pretty thorough explanation:

Bit technical this but as it stands Arne Slot is not banned from the touchline for Wolves game. FA will review refs’ report today and decide whether to charge him or not.

Depends on whether they deem it a ‘standard case’ with a set sanction or ‘non standard’ which results in a hearing.

Because he has already served a touchline ban this season there is a chance it will be the latter. If so, very unlikely it is resolved before Sunday.

So to conclude he could be in the dugout against Wolves and then be charged/banned/fined at a later date.

PL website saying he was banned for two games was an error.

The case will reportedly be resolved on Monday. If the FA decides to charge Slot and implement the two-match suspension, he will likely miss the away games at Aston Villa and Manchester City.
