Liverpool Reportedly Agree Personal Terms with Leverkusen Star Frimpong
Reports out of Germany claim the player has agreed a five-year deal and the Reds will trigger his €35M release clause.
Over the past 24 hours, while Liverpool fans online have been busy trying to make a life-or-death, friendship-ending, garment-rending argument out of whether supporters at Anfield crossed a line by booing Trent Alexander-Arnold, the club* have been hard at work.
At least it seems that way for anyone keeping half an eye on the Jeremie Frimpong transfer saga. Which probably doesn’t qualify as much of a saga given how it’s developed over the past 24 hours or so. Regardless, there are more Frimpong things happening. And quickly.
Following a flurry of rumours early on Tuesday suggesting a deal to sign the player could be in the works and maybe even close, heavy hitters of the German transfer rumour industrial complex Bild are now claiming it’s more than close—it’s basically a 100% done deal.
According to the report, Liverpool aren’t just talking to Bayer Leverkusen about finding a little wiggle room in the structure of how they pay Frimpong’s €35M release clause, but they’ve hammered out a five-year deal with the player that will see him sign through 2030.
This follows on from rumours on Monday that placed Frimpong’s agent somewhere in the north of England. Now, perhaps, the only real question is how the very attack-minded and very rapid player who’s as much a winger as fullback fits into Arne Slot’s Liverpool side.
*Not the players or manager, who are currently partying in Dubai and Ibiza.
