Liverpool Continue Honoring Jota With Planned Sculpture And Kit Badges
LFC continue handling the death of Diogo Jota with thoughtfulness and care.
There is no good way to handle the grieving process, especially when corporations and today’s media landscape are involved. That said, Liverpool FC are doing about as well as can be expected with the death of Diogo Jota, up to and including their newest plans to memorialize Jota at Anfield and on the kits this upcoming campaign.
Yesterday the club released plans to gather the flowers that have been laid at Anfield by supporters to compost them, and use that compost at Anfield and the AXA training ground. Moreover, they are gathering all the other materials left by supporters, including but not limited to scarves and kits, and recycling them to make a permanent sculpture memorializing Jota and his brother Andre Silva.
Additionally, there will be a “Forever 20” badge on Liverpool’s 2025/26 kits and training kits for the full length of the campaign. There is no word on whether this is the same badge that the club wore in the preseason match yesterday, which read “Diogo J. 20” with a heart in the 0 in 20.
Finally, they announced that any supporter who chooses to buy a kit with Jota’s name and number on it will have that amount donated to the LFC Foundation.
These are all classy and thoughtful gestures by the club, ones that make me proud to support this club through thick and thin.
