Rio Ngumoha Makes PFA Young Player of the Year Shortlist

Rio Ngumoha made 29 appearances for Liverpool in the 2025-26 season, scoring twice and generally being one of the few bright spots for Liverpool fans.

His first senior goal for the club came against Newcastle United in the second game of the season, a late and dramatic winner away that was nonetheless a mature and confident finish. This goal put him on the map for supporters, and with it he also became the club’s youngest ever scorer.

Also on the shortlist are Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki, Arsenal’s Max Dowman, Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was the last Liverpool player to win the PFA Young Player of the Year, having done so back in the 2019/20 season. The Reds are joint-second in all-time awards in this category (6), two behind leaders Manchester United. The award has been given out since the 1973-74 season.

This year’s winner will be announced on August 25th.
