Jürgen Klopp Favoured to Take Germany Job with Nagelsmann Sack Imminent

Julian Nagelsmann isn’t officially out as Germany’s national team manager, at least not quite yet. The writing, though, is very much on the wall and every even half-way reliable outlet in Germany believes it is a question of when not if and that if will be very soon.

To that end, Bild have been running photos of Nagelsmann leaving DFB headquarters alongside claims that the 38-year-old has been offered a €7M severance package and that the hopes are he will accept it and that they can soon part ways mutually and amicably.

If that doesn’t happen, the DFB will push Nagelsmann out. As to who they would then replace him with, well, there’s really only one name on that list and it’s Jürgen Klopp, with the ex-Liverpool and Dortmund boss widely reported in Germany to want the job.

According to Agence France-Presse, Germany plans to officially announce Nagelsmann’s departure one way or the other by early next week, and Sky Germany, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, and Bild all see Klopp’s ascension to the role as something of a foregone conclusion.

When Klopp left Liverpool two summers ago now he took on the role of head of global football for the Red Bull group, but from the beginning it was widely reported that his contract included a penalty-free exit clause should the German national team come calling.
