Jordan Henderson Targets FA Cup Return Against West Brom

The Liverpool captain is hoping to make his return to action after a month on the sidelines.

Having been missing since suffering a hamstring injury against Arsenal in December, Jordan Henderson is targeting a return to action against West Brom in the FA Cup on Saturday, though after such a lengthy layoff and with his availability still not certain a bench role seems the most likely option if he is ready to go.

Over the past week, Henderson has rejoined training with his teammates alongside Alberto Moreno, and though Moreno is still feeling some discomfort in his angle and is not expected to take part in the cup tie, Hederson is hopeful of playing according to a report from The Telegrapah’s Chris Bascombe.

For both, though, the real target could be a week later, when Liverpool take on Tottenham. Liverpool’s shock defeat against Swansea means the two sides are separated by just two points in the race for the top four—though with Spurs facing Manchester United mid-week, there will be hopes the gap is larger before kickoff.

Meanwhile, after their weekend cup tie against West Brom, Liverpool face Huddersfield Town in a game they will be favoured to win in and against an opponent that should play a slightly more open game than Swansea. It all means the top four race could look an awful lot different after next weekend.

If Spurs can get a result against United and then beat Liverpool, the Reds could find themselves out of the top four and in real trouble heading into the final stretch of the 2017-18 season. It’s equally likely, though, that a better mid-week result for Liverpool and a result against Spurs would put them in a far comfortable place.

Either way, though, the next week to ten days will be telling, and Henderson is determined to play a role in it—starting against West Brom on Saturday if he gets his way.
