Rhian Brewster Undergoes Surgery

The youngster will be out for several months.

The club have confirmed that Liverpool academy player Rhian Brewster had surgery done to fix damage on his ankle. Brewster suffered significant ligament damage after taking a heavy fall during the Liverpool Under 23s match against Manchester City Under 23s.

The decision was made for the youngster to get surgery, which he underwent earlier this week.

It was assumed that Brewster would be out for the rest of the season when the extent of the damage was known. Even before that, it was clear that there was a serious problem when the 17-year-old needed to be stretchered off the pitch, clearly in real pain.

News of the surgery comes with a confirmation that Brewster will need three-to-four months to fully recover. Considering that the season ends in around four month’s time, it’s unlikely that Liverpool’s rising star will see any more action until next season. The rehabilitation will take place at Kirby, the Reds’ youth base.

Brewster is still young, so hopefully he’ll be able to move on swiftly from this setback. However, it’s always a shame to see talented, developing players have to end their season abruptly.
