Sources deny the possibility of swapping Díaz for a Brazilian star.

Claims from earlier this week that Liverpool were looking to move alone Luis Díaz in January have been denied by sources. The plan was, apparently, to swap him out for Brazilian forward Raphinha, with Díaz going to Barcelona in exchange.

Part of the rumour seems to stem from Díaz’s thankfully safe and healthy father admitting in an interview that his son is a fan of Barcelona and hopes to one day play there.

However, aside from whatever admiration the Colombian striker has, his high quality performances and the fact that he’s not even two years into a five and a half year contract signal that he won’t be going anywhere this season.

Jürgen Klopp’s forward options are serving him well so far this season. Díaz, along with teammates Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Alexis Mac Allister, and Darwin Núñez, have all had opportunities to contribute to the team. Díaz has already scored four goals in the 14 games he’s appeared in.

That’s all leaving aside the fact that these swap deals pretty much never happen in Europe. This like-for-like switch would require a bunch of effort from both clubs to end up in a similar place to where they started.
