“Clyney’s Back” Says Jürgen Klopp

Nathaniel Clyne is expected to feature in Liverpool’s squad to face Crystal Palace on Saturday. And there’s was much rejoicing.

It’s been a long time out of the spotlight for Nathaniel Clyne. The Liverpool right back has been fighting his way through an injury nightmare for the last thousand years. But today Jürgen Klopp told his pre-Crystal Palace press conference friends that Clyne has emerged fit and healthy from his terrors. The manager now expects that the England defender will be able to play a key role in Liverpool’s remaining fixtures this season.

“Clyney is fit now,” Klopp announced.

“He played during the international break for the u23s. He’s in good shape. So, he will be a part of the squad for tomorrow.

“That’s good for us, of course. We can never have enough players, obviously.

“It’s not always easy for the players when they come back from an injury. Clyney played since I’m in, when he was fit, pretty much all the time. And then he got this injury that kept him away for awhile. But now he’s back and it’s good.

“Clyney’s back.”

But the good news must be balanced by an opposing force. The boost of Nathaniel Clyne’s return comes on the heels of the news that Joe Gomez will be out for a couple of games at least, struggling with his own injury, sustained while on England duty.

The up side is that Clyne may have access to more minutes now than he would if Gomez was still fighting fit. Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to start against Palace but if Clyne’s body is truly ready for the robust challenges of the Premier League, it will be a bonus to Klopp for the matches ahead.
