Emre Can Likely To Miss Manchester City Clash

The German defender remains a doubt ahead of the huge Champions League quarterfinal.

In case you have not heard, Liverpool are facing Manchester City at Anfield for the first leg of a Champions League quarterfinal tomorrow night. The Liverpool players were certainly aware on Saturday, taking them a full 45-minutes to realize that there was still a competitive league game to play.

One player who did not have to worry about Woy and his Fightin’ Eagles was German midfielder Emre Can, who has not seen action since withdrawing early in the 5-0 win over Watford before the international break. The hope was that Can would recover from his back injury in time to face City, but that hope is fading quickly.

The soon-to-be out of contract midfielder is “losing the race” to be fit in time, according to The Echo.

Can has yet to return to training. His injury, along with Adam Lallana’s, means Jürgen Klopp’s midfield largely picks itself. Captain Jordan Henderson seems the most likely midfielder to start, especially in Can’s absence. James Milner, who has been fantastic for the Reds in recent months, and especially in Europe, also seems likely to get the nod. The last slot will probably come down to either Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, or Georginio Wijnaldum.

Hopefully Can can get fit and back up to speed for the second leg, next Tuesday.
