Klopp Not Hopeful On Lallana’s Injury

The injury-ridden midfielder suffered another blow when he went off after only three minutes.

Despite winning their game on Saturday, Liverpool lost midfielder Adam Lallana to injury only three minutes into his substitute appearance against Crystal Palace. It was immediately apparent that the injury was a bad one, and though he didn’t end up needing the stretcher that came out for him, it was clear that this was another significant blow for the injury-prone Englishman.

Lallana, who has spent most of this season recovering from a thigh injury sustained during the pre-season, finally seemed to have worked his way back to fitness. That all disappeared within less than five minutes, and while it’s still unknown how long he’ll be out, Klopp isn’t hopeful.

“I haven’t spoken with him but I saw him. It’s absolutely bad,” he confirmed after the match. “We don’t know exactly what he has, but in the first moment and then I saw him going down it looked really serious, to be honest. It looks like something with the muscle, we couldn’t make any further assessment so far, of course, but we will do that as quick as possible.

”He’s our friend, our boy, our mate, our player having a difficult season already. Maybe one of the biggest achievements of the team is that they could play a season so far like they played without Adam Lallana – I never would have thought it was possible.

”So we are all desperately waiting for him and now coming step-by-step back and now… it’s a big, big blow for us today.”

With only six weeks and eight to 11 games left to play, it’s unlikely that Lallana will get on the pitch for Liverpool again. The big question for the player now may be if he can beat the clock to recover in time for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

If Lallana does end up out for the rest of the season, it’s a big blow for Liverpool. Klopp is also missing Joe Gomez and Emre Can as they try to stay in the top four and advance in the Champions League. Without Can and Lallana, Liverpool’s midfield starts to feel pretty thin.

It’s unclear the extent of the damage, so we can cross our fingers and hope for the best while expecting the worst.
