Former Red John Barnes has backed ex-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez to consider taking the Everton managerial role if it were offered to him, despite his connection with Liverpool.

Marco Silva is under immense pressure at Goodison Park as of this moment. The Toffees sit 17th in the Premier League after losing 2-1 to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium yesterday.

Benitez is currently manager of Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang, but Barnes is adamant the Spaniard would take the Everton job if Silva were to be sacked and if it were to be offered to him.

“I could see Benitez going to Everton,” Barnes said on beIN SPORTS. “Benitez is coming from China, Mauricio Pochettino is in a different position to Benitez. I think Benitez would take Everton, I think he would. Everton need someone to stabilise the club.”
