Zidane: Ronaldo Will Be 150% Fit for “Spectacular” Champions League Final

The Real Madrid manager expects all his key players to be ready to go in time for Kyiv.

Cristiano Ronaldo picked up a knock against Barcelona over the weekend. This led, perhaps inevitably, to questions about the attacker’s long-term fitness status amongst Liverpool fans wondering if it might impact his ability to play in the Champions League final.

And, if Liverpool fans were hoping to get the chance to face Real Madrid sans Ronaldo, manager Zinedine Zidane was quick today to reassure fans of the Spanish side that his would be a full strength outfit by the time the final arrives in a little less than three weeks.

“Everyone will be okay for the final,” Zidane told reporters on Tuesday when asked about the status of not just Ronaldo but a handful of Madrid’s key players with injury question marks, with midfielder Isco and right back Dani Carvajal also missing time of late.

“Cristiano, Isco, and Carvajal. The worst situation is that of Cristiano, because he has just suffered the injury, but he will be fine. Carvajal is lacking a bit of sharpness but physically he is working well. Isco is back training by himself. We will see them all back at 150%.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, are also struggling through their own injuries, with midfield in particular hit hard in recent weeks, and while Klopp hasn’t been as bullish perhaps as Zidane, there is a good chance both Emre Can and Adam Lallana will be fit for the final.

And whoever is fit and starts the game in the end for both Madrid and Liverpool, Zidane is expecting an uptempo, attacking final given both sides made it this far by playing pressing, open football—and despite both having some question marks at the back.

“It will be a spectacular game, open, with many chances,” he noted. “The most important thing for us will be to plan what to do in the game. We will analyze it in more detail later, but it is a final and there will be a lot of intensity.”
