Alexander-Arnold Is Supporting His Liverpool Teammates At The World Cup

The young, England defender is watching Sadio Mané and all of his fellow Reds playing at the World Cup.

You could chalk it up to age, but there’s more to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s glee for the beautiful game than can be explained by pure youthful exuberance. Liverpool’s young right-back just enjoyed an impressive season under JĂ¼rgen Klopp, making a big difference for the Reds in both the Premier League and the Champions League. Trent’s accelerated rise in stature at Liverpool is a testament to the player’s natural ability but also to the unifying environment Klopp has created at Melwood.

Now, as a surprise addition to the England national team, Alexander-Arnold is in Russia, focused on performing for his country. But the commitment to his Liverpool teammates is unwavering and the Scouse defender has made a point of watching his fellow Reds perform at the World Cup.

Sadio ManĂ© captained Senegal as they beat Poland 2-1 earlier in the week and Alexander-Arnold was cheering him on from England’s World Cup headquarters.

“I try to watch every one of my club-mates’ games out here, I watched their first game and I want to see him do well,” said Trent.

”It’s only right we all support each other in that sense. Whenever I watch Senegal I want to see them win and the same with my other teammates.

”We’re just focused on ourselves but if the time comes when we hopefully get out of the group and we play them, that’s when we’ll focus on it.”

Alexander-Arnold is aware that he may have to put aside his club friendships if, say, England were to face Senegal in the round of 16, but he’ll take that as it comes.

“We never spoke about it, there were three games we needed to get past and there’s still two now.

”Until we know we might be playing each other, that’s when we’ll speak.”

The World Cup is great. Put that on a t-shirt. And it’s refreshing to learn that Liverpool’s players are supporting one another while they compete with their national teams in the tournament.
