Egypt head coach hopeful of quick recovery for Mohamed Salah

Egypt head coach Hector Cuper is hopeful Mohamed Salah can make a quick recovery and be fit for the opening game of their World Cup campaign.

Salah is recovering from the shoulder injury he sustained in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev. Many feared the worst at the time of the injury declaring the Egyptian may not make the World Cup, but he is recovering well.

Egypt’s first game is against Uruguay on June 15, and Cuper is optimistic Egypt will have their star man for the match.

“Salah is in a stage of recovery not just for treatment on his shoulder, we need to improve his demeanour and his fitness level because the injury has prevented him from training as a normal player,” Cuper said to Sky Sports.

“But we have very good news from our doctor, we hope he will be with us before Uruguay (who Egypt face in their opening match on June 15). We are optimists and we are waiting for him.

“We hope we won’t be affected, we try to be the same team, we can’t be dependent on one player. He’s important but if he’s not fit in time we will be ready with another player.

“This is football, these things can happen to any player. We could need to substitute him, but we hope that won’t be the case.”
