Trent Alexander-Arnold wants starting place for England at World Cup

Trent Alexander-Arnold has made his intentions clear by stating that he wants a starting place under Gareth Southgate at the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

Speaking to Sky Sports after making his England debut, Alexander-Arnold believes he received good advice from those around him heading into the game against Costa Rica.

“He [Southgate] told me to keep it simple and play like I play at club, don’t overthink things and things like that,” said Alexander-Arnold.

“I got a text of James Milner as well which was a nice touch from him. I really appreciated that and he told me to play how I play for club and just go out there and enjoy it, and that’s what I tried to do.”

When the young Liverpudlian was asked about his goals for the World Cup, he made it clear he doesn’t want to be sitting on the bench.

“Yeah, think that’s the whole point of being in the squad. Everyone wants to play and I think in training you can see that everyone’s fighting for a position,” said Alexander-Arnold.

“No one is going there wanting to sit on the bench. Everyone wants to go there and play minutes and start games, and I think I’m definitely one of them.”

England won the game 2-0 against Costa Rica.
