Jordan Henderson praises England team-mates after penalty shootout

Jordan Henderson has praised his team-mates after England progressed against Colombia to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

The game went to a shootout which England won 4-3. Henderson was designated to take a penalty for his nation, but he could not convert. Despite that, he still showed his class during and after the shootout.

“I felt we controlled the game before they got an equaliser from the set-piece at the end which was disappointing, but you have to expect that in the World Cup,” Henderson said, as quoted by The Independent.

“We came back and dug in but it went to penalties and thankfully we came through.

“We have been practicing them for a while now and the manager picked the five that he wanted. Unfortunately, I didn’t score but the other lads were brilliant, especially Jordan (Pickford) for making the save and Eric (Dier) handing us the win.

“We showed a real togetherness tonight in a difficult game.”

Henderson will feature in England’s quarter-final against Sweden on Saturday.
