Keita and Fabinho both start at Tranmere

Liverpool’s new signings Naby Keita and Fabinho will start alongside one another for the first time in Liverpool’s second pre-season friendly against Tranmere.

Both players made their debuts last time out at Chester, with Fabinho playing the first half and Keita the second, but on Tuesday evening they will both start, with the Brazilian in a defensive role and his Guinean team-mate slightly more advanced.

Danny Ward will begin the game before being replaced by Loris Karius for the second half.

The Reds begin with a back four consisting of youngsters Rafa Camacho and Nathaniel Phillips as well as the more experienced pairing of Ragnar Klavan and Andy Robertson on the left.

Nathaniel Clyne, Joe Gomez, Pedro Chirivella and Alberto Moreno will all be given a chance to impress Jurgen Klopp after the break.

Fabinho, Keita and Adam Lallana, returning to the side after missing the pre-season opener through illness, make up a strong initial midfield three.

If all goes to plan, they will make way for James Milner, who will don the armband, Ben Woodburn, once again being trialled in a deeper role, and Curtis Jones for the second half.

Dominic Solanke begins through the middle at Prenton Park, flanked by Sheyi Ojo and Ryan Kent, whose futures appear to lie elsewhere.

In the second period, Harry Wilson, whose new deal was announced earlier on Tuesday, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge will all continue their efforts to force a way into Klopp’s first-team plans.

Wilson and Sturridge both hit doubles at Chester, but Origi, who may line-up on the wing, is already under slight pressure to find the net after spurning some good opportunities last time out.

Liverpool plan to give a run-out to 22 of the 23 players who have travelled. Caoimhin Kelleher, an academy goalkeeper, will serve as an additional substitute.

The game begins at 19.30 UK time.
