Mohamed Salah Pens New 5-Year Deal At Liverpool
The deal will make Salah among the top earners at Merseyside’s Finest, along with Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino.
Happy Monday everyone! Although there have been rumors of a new contract in the works for Mohamed Salah, the announcement this morning of a new 5-year deal comes as a very pleasant surprise.
The new contract does not contain a release clause, and will make him among the top three earners at the club, alongside Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk. If the 26-year-old sees out the contract, it will keep him in Liverpool Red until the summer of 2023.
Despite rumored interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, Salah was repeatedly adamant about his commitment to Liverpool. And why wouldn’t he be? He exploded onto the scene in his debut season on Merseyside, scoring an eye-watering 44 goals in all competitions, and breaking a Premier League single-season goalscoring record. Along with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, the trio of attackers were arguably the best leading line on the continent.
Speaking of Sadio Mane, The Echo are reporting that the Senegalese star now becomes the club’s top priority for a big pay day.
Of course, it’s easy to be cynical about these sorts of things. After all, both Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho were out the door less than a year after their respective contract extensions. However, in both of those cases the club managed to protect their financial interests with the contract extensions, ultimately earning more on both transfers than they otherwise would have.
Regardless, no need to think about former Liverpool players at the moment, when we have one of the world’s best wingers on our side for the foreseeable future.
