Salah Set to Return to Melwood Later This Month

The Egyptian international will return to England after a family vacation in Lebanon.

It’s not exactly been a great month for Mohamed Salah, or any of his followers. He barely had time to even begin to recover from his injury before he was in Russia with the hopes and dreams of his entire nation riding on his success. Their campaign was understandably lackluster. Salah was still unfit and the rest of the Egyptian squad wasn’t strong enough to rally against Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. On top of that, Salah was also at the centre of political drama in the final days of Egypt’s stay in Russia, a particularly sour note to end his first World Cup campaign on. (NOTE: There have been quite a few incisive pieces written about Salah and how he’s being used as a political symbol, and I recommend reading them all.)

But that’s hopefully behind him now, and he and his family will get to take a breather in Beirut, Lebanon before he returns to Liverpool and Klopp’s welcoming embrace. The details of the visit are being kept under wraps to protect Salah from public harrassment, but he will reportedly meet with several government officials, including Lebanese Prime Minister, Saad Hariri. Hopefully it’s not all meetings and photo-ops, however, and he gets to rest and take some time off before returning to Melwood later this month.

Liverpool will begin their pre-season preparations with friendlies against Tranmere, Chester, Bury, and Blackburn before heading to the U.S. to take part in the International Champions Cup.
