Chelsea want Liverpool target Fekir but player may be reluctant

Chelsea are reportedly set to make a late move to sign Liverpool target Nabil Fekir in the coming days but there are doubts as to whether the Frenchman wants the move.

Fekir was on the verge of joining Liverpool in June before the deal collapsed when Liverpool grew concerned about a knee problem.

For the moment, it looks as if the Reds will not attempt to renegotiate a deal with the French club this summer.

That stance may open the door for their Premier League rivals, with France Football – via GFFN – claiming that Chelsea have identified the World Cup winner as the man to fill an important void in their attack.

They do not believe Liverpool will go back in for the player after supposedly ‘infuriating’ Lyon’s representatives when they attempted to lower the agreed fee in light of their findings from his medical.

Chelsea are not said to have made a bid at this stage, but an offer could be imminent with Thursday’s transfer deadline looming.

Crucially, Maurizio Sarri’s side cannot offer Champions League football, and Fekir, who had his heart set on a move to Liverpool, may seek to bide his time.

Fekir himself has refused to rule out a move away from the Groupama Stadium but also insists he is happy at Lyon.

“As you can see, I am in Lyon. I am very happy here,” he said. “But the transfer window is still long and everything goes very quickly in football.

“We don’t know what will happen in the future but I am very happy at Lyon. I feel brilliant in this squad. We have very good players, a great atmosphere. It is a bit like the French national team: a mixture of youngster and older players, with some players more experienced than others.

“We have a good group, very homogeneous. We feel good together and I hope that Lyon will have a very good season.”
