Danny Ings Expected to Remain at Liverpool for 2018-19 Season
The striker looks almost certain to remain at Anfield for the coming season
Following news that Crystal Palace had signed Swansea’s Jordan Ayew on a season-long loan, taking the most likely destination for Danny Ings off the table, it appears the Liverpool striker is no longer expected to leave the club at all this summer.
This according to The Echo’s James Pearce and other journalists with ties to the club, suggesting that not only has any Palace move fallen through—which isn’t a surprise with Ayew going there—but that Southampton are also off the table.
In recent days, both Palace and Southampton were said to be chasing after Ings, with Liverpool believing it was a situation that all but guaranteed both his departure and that they would get the £20M fee they wanted for the oft-injured striker.
Now, it seems, it would take a shock development for Ings not to end the day still as part of JĂĽrgen Klopp’s squad, and unlike Divock Origi, a departure to a club on the continent before the window closes elsewhere on the 31st is highly unlikely.
This will be disappointing news for Ings, who was eager to depart in search of playing time. However, given Klopp was never looking to sell—only willing to if the right bid arrived and to grant Ings his wish—the manager may not be too bothered.
