Hodgson issues Benteke warning ahead of Liverpool meeting
Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson says Christian Benteke will be determined to make a statement against former club Liverpool when they visit Selhurst Park on Monday night.
Benteke joined Palace just 12 months after making would prove an unsuccessful move to Anfield.
However, his record against the Reds is impressive, with seven strikes across 10 games.
Hodgson reckons the towering Belgian, who has struggled for form of late, will be especially fired-up ahead of the game.
“It would mean a lot for him to score,” he told reporters. “He’s desperate to put last season behind him. What better way to do that against his former club. It won’t be difficult to motivate him for that game.”

The Englishman understands how great a pose Liverpool pose, but is confident his team can give the title contenders a real test.
“Very good,” was his assessment. “I watched the West Ham game and they were very impressive. Each transfer window under Jurgen Klopp they’ve improved, as well as improving the players who are already there.
“We know the way they play and where their strengths lie. We’re playing at home and we have threats of our own that can cause teams problems when we have the ball.”
