Hughton: Away games don’t come any tougher
Chris Hughton admits his Brighton side face an almighty test when they visit Anfield on Saturday but says they are in confident mood after beating Manchester United.
The Seagulls bounced back an opening day loss at Watford with a magnificent performance against United, scoring three goals in 20 first-half minutes to humble Jose Mourinho’s side.
With games against Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester City to come before the end of September, Hughton feels those three points have eased the pressure on his side as they look to stave off relegation once again.
The Reds, though, are brimming with confidence themselves after picking up two consecutive wins and as such are the overwhelming favourites for the Saturday evening clash.
“An away game at Liverpool – they almost don’t come any tougher than that,” he said. “We’ll certainly need to show a lot of the qualities that we showed in last week’s performance.

“[That result] allows us to go to Liverpool with three points. It’s perhaps quite daunting if you’ve lost your first two games then your next game is Liverpool.
“Hopefully, it will allow us to go into it with a little bit more confidence and a little bit less pressure. There isn’t anybody that would see us winning in that game and I think we’ve got to approach the game in a manner that will allow us to get something.”
Liverpool beat Brighton on 4-0 on the final day of last season, having won 5-1 at the Amex Stadium in the earlier meeting, but Hughton believes his side have what it to takes to spring a surprise.
“You know against the top six it’s generally going to be a different type of game, you know they’re going to have the bulk of possession and that’ll be no different at Anfield on Saturday,” he said.
“But there isn’t a game we go into thinking that we can’t get a result.”
