Marko Grujić In Line For Extension and Bundesliga Loan Move

The young midfielder will spend the year at Hertha Berlin.

As expected, Jürgen Klopp continues to tinker with his squad for this season and in anticipation of the next, as another young player heads out on loan. As reported in the Liverpool Echo, this time, it’s 22-year-old central midfielder Marko Grujić. He is expected to sign a contract extension that will tie him to Liverpool until 2023, before heading to Hertha Berlin for the current Bundesliga season.

Despite outgoings in midfield over the past year, it was always going to be a bit of a challenge for Grujić to see consistent minutes during this year’s campaign, given the arrivals of Naby Keïta and Fabinho. With the offer of a contract extension, Liverpool seems to be sigalling that Grujić hasn’t yet been tagged for a permanent move away.

Grujić had also purportedly attracted interest from Torino as well as Premier League outfits Cardiff City and Crystal Palace. According to the Echo, however, Klopp is focused on securing central midfield minutes for Grujić this year, as the manager expects the Serbian to be in the first team frame next year. As such, Klopp felt that the Bundesliga outfit, which finished in 10th place least season, would be a better option than the ones closer to home.
