Mohamed Salah Reportedly Rejected Real Madrid Approach

According to reports in Spain, the Egyptian star’s answer to Madrid interest was signing a new Liverpool deal.
Real Madrid have sold Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric could be set to follow him out from the Spanish giants. For a club with a history of spending big and signing stars, one that had already been expected to do so again this summer, that should lead to a lot of action in the transfer market.
Most summers, it would also mean some very nervous Liverpool fans. This summer, on the other hand, not so much, as despite some buzz last season that Madrid could move to sign Mohamed Salah, there’s been no sign of them actually doing so. And according to El Pais, that’s down to Salah.
The Madrid-based paper, Spain’s most read, say Madrid approached Salah’s representatives following the hire of new manager Julen Lopetegui. Salah’s initial response was, in El Pais’ words, “lukewarm.” Or at least his initial response to Madrid was. Because not long after, he signed a new long-term deal.
Following their initial outreach, Salah’s new contract served as a conclusive and convincing rejection of any Madrid interest. And, in all of that, for Liverpool fans—and the club itself—is some very good news. It’s a summer, for once, that appears to be going largely to plan, at least barring the Nabil Fekir deal.
It is also a feeling of confirmation that right now, Liverpool look to have reached a stage in Jürgen Klopp’s project and FSG’s ownership where the club are no longer a stepping stone for the game’s best players, a place where they can show their talents before moving on to win titles and trophies.
Mohamed Salah’s reaction to an approach by Real Madrid this summer was to sign a new Liverpool deal. That, more than anything else that’s happened this summer, tells you where Liverpool is right now. The 2018-19 season should be a good one.
