Rumour Mongering: Nabil Fekir Set to Join AC Milan in Cut-Rate Deal

A year after his Liverpool move broke down, we might finally be at the end of Fekir being linked with the Reds.

A fee was agreed, as were personal terms. The unveiling photoshoot and interview had been done. And then, last summer, Nabil Fekir’s Liverpool move broke down. Ever since, Liverpool fans have understandably been loathe to let it go.

For many, Fekir was the one who got away. And for many, there has been a belief that the deal isn’t over; can’t be over. That the Reds would be back for Fekir. Today, it looks like we might finally be on the verge of putting all of that to bed.

Today, reports in Italy claim AC Milan are moving for Fekir, that with Lyon actively shopping the player now that he has one year left on his contract they have decided he represents good value—and, presumably, they aren’t worried about his knee.

Or at least that’s what CalcioMercato think, calling Milan’s purported move for Fekir a “swoop” in classic rumour mongering terminology and outlining a fee in the €35-40M (£30-35M) range as being enough for the Rossoneri to land the player.

It’s worth noting, perhaps, that fee is higher than the £25M or so some in France have suggested Lyon might have to accept if they want to see any return on Fekir rather than losing him next summer on a free when his contract expires.

Regardless, we now wait to see if Milan’s rumoured swoop materialises and puts an end, 12 months on, to the possibility that was never really a possibility of Liverpool renewing their Fekir interest and belatedly completing his signing.
