Jordan Henderson Prepared For a Fight Against Arsenal

The captain admits that it’s always a struggle when the Gunners come calling.
When the Arsenal come into town, you never know quite what kind of game you’ll get. Last season, Liverpool beat them at a jog at Anfield, but the Gunners have looked much more impressive this time around in the lead up to this game. They are the only other team who has won their opening two matches in the league, and Golden Boot winner Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang already has several goals to his name. Add to that the fact that Liverpool will be without Alisson Becker, and this might end up a bit of a nail biter.
Jordan Henderson, in the matchday programme, talks about the challenges presented by Arsenal.
“It’s fair to say some of the most exciting games I’ve been involved in since joining Liverpool have been against Arsenal,” he admitted. “I’m not sure what it is about this fixture that brings out the best in both teams, but at the end of the 90 minutes you always feel like you’ve been part of a great contest. And it’s not always about games with a high scoreline either, even though there have been a few in the Premier League era. It’s more to do with the intensity of the game.”
He added: “When you face Arsenal you know that your own commitment and concentration has to be at its maximum for the entire game. If you drop even half-a-per-cent they will punish you. They’ve started the season strongly and we know nothing less than our absolute maximum will be required tonight if we’re to get the result we want.”
The Kop will be out in full force today, and anyone facing Liverpool at Anfield have their work cut out for them.
