Official: Southampton Seal Danny Ings Capture

The injury-plagued striker has joined the Saints on loan with an agreement to buy for £20m next season

The forward has managed to secure a move away at the final time of asking. Despite the deadline day window officially closing at 5pm BST, Southampton were granted an extension in their efforts to sign the 26-year-old after hours. The deal that was eventually struck will have Ings join Mark Hughes’ side on loan for the 2018-19 season before sealing a permanent switch next summer for £20m.

Bought by Brendan Rodgers after a stellar maiden Premier League season with Burnley in the 2015 summer window for a tribunal-set fee of £6.5m, the Winchester-born forward suffered terrible luck at Anfield, enduring two long-term knee injuries that hamstrung his career, limiting him to 25 first team appearances and four goals in three seasons.

With a reported £18m to be paid up front on July 1, 2019, with £2m in add-ons and a sell-on clause, the deal represents yet another coup for Michael Edwards and the transfer team as Liverpool have again managed to move a fringe player off the books at a massive profit.

The ex-Burnley starlet will link up with the South Coast club in an attempt to revive a once-promising career. The Saints in turn will receive a boost to their promotion hopes as their start their campaign in the Championship division, as a healthy Ings serves as an impressive addition to their striking options.

Best of luck to you Danny. YNWA.
