Rumor Mongering: Keeping Fekir Rumors On Life Support
Listen, it’s probably not happening at this point, but the media are desperately trying to keep the not-a-story going.
Did you know that Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir nearly became a Liverpool player earlier this summer? Of course you did. It was everywhere, right up until it wasn’t. And since then, the media has been playing up the possibility of Liverpool—or someone else!—rekindling the deal.
So far, there has been little indication that Liverpool are willing to go back in for the playmaker after getting a closer look a that knee. There have been a few grumblings about Chelsea perhaps taking a punt, but beyond that, not much.
Still, the manager of Lyon, Bruno Genesio, kept the door open for a possible move.
“It’s too early to say [what will happen],” Genesio said. “He wanted to leave at the end of last season, but came back to training yesterday and was happy.
“Who knows? There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window. For now, he is a Lyon player.”
Really not much to go on, if we’re honest. However, he was held out of last night’s friendly against Chelsea, so who knows?
If he’s going to make a move to the Premier League, it seems as if Chelsea are the likeliest candidate. As much as I would have loved to have seen him in Red, we have to trust the recruitment and medical staff who made it clear (in actions, if not words) that Fekir was too big of a risk for the fee.
