Rumor Mongering: Liverpool Considering Selling Both Karius and Mignolet

Wait, what?
Irrespective of the signing of world’s most expensive goalkeeper Alisson from Roma, there has been widespread speculation over the future of Simon Mignolet at Liverpool. In fact, it seemed like he’d be the first one out the door. So it was a surprise when Danny Ward was the first to peace out, leaving Merseyside for Leicester City in a £12.5 million move.
Now, even more surprising, is the report from John Percy in The Telegraph that JĂĽrgen Klopp is considering moves for not just Mignolet, but also Loris Karius. According to the report, Klopp has been impressed by academy goalkeepers Kamil Grabara and Caoimhin Kelleher during preseason training, and is open to the possibility of having one of them (presumably Grabara) stepping up as understudy to Alisson.
The assumption had been that Klopp would move one or the other. Moving both seems like an unnecessary risk, leaving us one injury away from starting a teenager between the sticks.
However, with links emerging for both keepers—Mignolet to Barcelona and Besiktas, and Karius to Bayer Leverkusen—perhaps Klopp feels that both could move on for the appropriate fees. This is especially true in the case of Karius, whose stock probably won’t rise too much from the occasionally domestic cup appearance.
Still, moving both on seems highly unlikely (not to mention potentially irresponsible). But like all transfer matters, we should really trust Kloppo’s judgment, whatever ends up being the case.
