Sheyi Ojo Reportedly Considering Stade de Reims Move

The 21-year-old winger could be heading to the newly promoted Leigue 1 side for the coming season.

With the transfer windows closed for Premier League and Serie A sides, the options for players in need of a permanent or loan switch are limited heading into the final week of August but for those who will need to head elsewhere they do still exist.

For Liverpool, one forgotten name following pre-season and the close of the domestic window is Sheyi Ojo, with the 21-year-old still at the club but not being in—or even, by all reliable reports, close to—the matchday squad for any of the first three games.

Whether or not Ojo has a long-term future at the club, a home for the present is a must for the young winger if he’s to continue his development, and according to journalists with ties to the club his most likely new home could be French club Stade de Reims.

Reims are back in Ligue 1 this season after spending the past two in Ligue 2 and are looking to strengthen in the final week of the window to aid in their survival hopes, and that would mean regular playing time in a fairly high-pressure environment for Ojo.

The player is also said to be interested in joining Reims. Still, a bottom-half Ligue 1 side doesn’t necessarily seem like a place that is going to help Ojo earn the kind of experience he will need if he’s ever meant to challenge for playing time at Liverpool.

He does need a new home, though, at least for the coming season, and Reims would give him minutes. And the alternative—staying at Liverpool with the reserves and hoping for a few domestic cup appearances—would be far worse for his development.
